I hope to encourage, motivate and inspire others to make positive lifestyle choices that will improve their physical and mental health throughout their lives.
I spent a career in the NHS and also served in voluntary roles in Age UK, South Lakeland and local government and am acutely aware of the adverse impact that poor health can have on people as they age. I’m very concerned about how easy it is to become unhealthy and how miserable life can be if we don’t do something about it.
There’s a growing number of people suffering from heart and lung disease, high blood pressure, obesity, depression and diabetes. These are known as long term conditions, and, they are really important to all of us. We can treat them, but they are generally not curable. Once you get one, it will adversely affect the quality of your life.
But, it doesn’t have to be like this. The conditions mentioned are largely preventable and even if you have one, the deterioration can be halted or even reversed in the early stages by adopting healthy lifestyle choices.
It’s not just about running, it’s about any and all activity we might engage in, whether physical or social that gives us pleasure and social contact, and generally improves the quality of our life and the lives of others.
The vision for our website, is that we will provide information on a range of topics, from the facts behind my concerns for our future health, to ideas and challenges on making small, positive lifestyle changes.
