I swam as a child and also used to take my children swimming. A friend encouraged me to swim again. I’ve never quite gotten used to getting in the cold water but once I’m in I’m ok.
I find I have to concentrate when I’m swimming, unlike running and walking where I can let my mind wander. Swimming never seems to get any easier for me but I always sleep better on days I manage to go swimming.
I have a group of friends who enjoy open water swimming and I much prefer to join them if I can and swim in the open air.
Swimming is a great all round activity – why not give it a try?
